The Gathering of Colonial Ships - A Descriptive Explanation

From starting to draw by putting down different types of ideas on paper to the end of finishing touches of an artwork.....!!!

As I begin to work on some of the old classical drawing pieces, I always begin by key into the important ideas that make up the classical pieces of a drawing. Believe or not, if you are good in classical drawing, or figurative drawing in general, you can pretty much create anything you would like to - by drawing things/objects in many different perspectives and orientations. I begin drawing by asking myself what are some of the things in drawing ships could be made different and eye-catching....what are some of the ways that the masters would chose to draw objects and make it look impactful. As I begin drawing, I tend to "outline" the many details and key features of the artwork (most importantly, I want to be able to see it in my mind at first and then drawing it out on paper), and then I would combine the pieces and trying to "redo" the whole thing again until I get it right and looks right to me - at the first. After that, I would then focus on the details and with more in depth part of the entire artwork. This is one of the areas in how I approach drawing.
